Trivial

shay

By: Shaylei Byrd

When does being too cool to care, become unfair?

When does it become too much to bear?

Is it when our men show no trace of self-respect?

Shoot each other down with no regrets…

Or is it when our women are left alone,

to raise their babies cuz their men cant come home?

Caught in the trap, true to the game, oh what a trivial life we claim.

Not realizing our minds are still bound by chains.

But born again Afrikans are soon to reign.

Blinded by superficial, material gain

Many loose sight of the original game…

Uplift the white keep down the black

And then they tell you things so that it stays like that.

Remember to help others, school aint shit, worry about you; that’s the only way to get…

What really matters: money, cars, clothes, hoes; but when it’s all over, where did it go?

What you might ask?Why our pride..respect,

Our history and culture has endured constant neglect

But dont worry too much about you as a people…

When you remain individual, that’s how they keep you.

That mindset didnt get us where we are today,

Blacks cares about blacks, never scared to fight back,

For each other, one another, another one, another gun, another done, and again…they’ve won.

So when does being too cool to care, become unfair?

Is it when our men enter prison faster that they exit high school?

Or when our women believe babies and government assistance is cool?

Caught in the trap, true to the game, oh what a trivial life we claim.

Not realizing our minds are still bound by chains…
